Library Book Reservation Policy

Please read the following before proceeding with your reservation:

  • A reservation fee of $1.55 (inclusive of GST) will be charged once the reserved item is allocated to you. Please note that the reserved item can only be issued if you have not yet reached your loan quota.
  • Your reservation will expire and be removed from the reservation queue if it remains unfulfilled after 180 days. You will be notified accordingly. Please inform the Library of any change of address/email.
  • Reservation requests are not processed immediately upon the submission of requests. Allocation of reserved items is carried out via system night processes and is subject to availability of reservable copies.
  • Copies available on shelf within the selected pick-up branch may or may not be allocated for your reservation request. This will depend on their availability on shelf at the point of allocation. In the interest of serving you better, the next available copy in the library network will be allocated for your request.

I would like to highlight one statement.
Your reservation will expire and be removed from the reservation queue if it remains unfulfilled after 180 days.
180 days is too long isn't it? If some inconsiderate or irresponsible borrower reserved a book but never turn up to pick up a book, wouldn't this deprive the next one in queue? There is one particular book I am interested in but there is only ONE such book in the whole of Singapore libraries. That book so happen is now under Reserved status for the past 5 days, yet to be pick up. I am going to write in to National Library Board.
