Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew penned comment on SMRT massive breakdown

Following massive SMRT train breakdown on 15 Dec that halted travelling from Bishan to Marina Bay both directions for hours during evening peak hour, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew was made to pen his comments on his Facebook page.

I have been following the incident of the MRT breakdown from Cambodia. I am especially concerned over the well-being of the people who were reported to be trapped in the trains for an extended period of time before they made their way to safety.

There have been a number of train disruptions in recent days. I do not know if these are isolated incidents or whether there are systemic and more serious underlying issues causing these breakdowns. We will therefore conduct a thorough health check on our train systems, determine how the faults happened and also whether the maintenance, communication and recovery processes were adhered to and can be further improved.

I have asked LTA to assemble a team of relevant experts, including possibly relevant overseas experts to help us in this review.

I really do hope the transport authority can do something on this and possibly push for a new CEO for SMRT. We need accountability - the SMRT CEO should not stay hiding and not do anything after so many train disruptions recently.

On msconfig, switch to the Services tab. Switch Startup type to Manual.Restart your computer. FortiClient should not be running automatically the next time round. Hope it helps.

I reached 高雄国际航空站 in the morning. Weather was not good and was in fact drizzling. A typhoon had just passed Taiwan. We alighted from the Eva Air plane right onto the runway where we were picked up by a shuttle bus to the arrival hall. The system could have been better if we alighted not on the runway and at a place with shelter.

We then took a bus from the airport straight to our camp, Hengchun Camp. The journey was long. It was too early a morning and so all the shops along the way were not opened. I could see mountains everywhere.

Hengchun Camp was more like an old camp to me. The camp was there for more than 30 years. The external looked average but then the internal revealed itself. More than 50 soldiers were made to live in a bunk! Fans were not enough! Toilets were at another block and so we actually had to cross to another block just to use the toilet. Toilet facilities were bad too. Some of the showers let out water that could boil an egg! Those were condemmed. The first d…
