Offline Google Calendar from Chrome Web Store

Google has recently launched a new Gmail web app and updates to Calendar and Docs, to equip them with offline capability.

When you’re offline in Google Calendar, you can view events from your calendars and RSVP to appointments. With Google Docs you can view documents and spreadsheets when you don’t have a connection. For now, offline editing is not yet ready but work is on its way to make this possible. To get started using Google Calendar or Google Docs offline, just click the gear icon at the top right corner of the web app and select the option for offline access.

Gmail Offline is a Chrome Web Store app that’s intended for situations when you need to read, respond to, organize and archive email without an internet connection. This HTML5-powered app is based on the Gmail web app for tablets, which was built to function with or without web access. After you install the Gmail Offline app from the Chrome Web Store, you can continue using Gmail when you lose your connection by clicking the Gmail Offline icon on Chrome’s “new tab” page.

Description of the Gmail Offline app:
Gmail Offline beta is a Gmail app built to support offline access, allowing mail to be read, responded to, searched and archived without network access. After first start-up, Gmail Offline will automatically synchronize messages and queued actions anytime Chrome is running and an Internet connection is available. More than just an offline app, the streamlined user interface, based off Gmail’s popular tablet interface, provides extremely fast response time with a pure, email focused experience.

To start Offline Gmail after installing, open a new tab in Chrome; In the new tab pane you will see a Gmail Offline Icon. Click on the icon, and Offline Gmail will load.

There is a powerful but little known Gmail feature that lives in Labs called "Add any gadget by URL". This feature has to be turned on before using it. The experimental feature allows you to add iGoogle gadgets (or any gadget specified by an .xml file) to the side of your Gmail account. While most of these gadgets are built by third-parties and not owned or maintained by Google, they can be super handy.

Assuming the "Add any gadget by URL" feature is turned on, go to the new "Gadgets" tab under "Settings" and add the relevant .xml address for installation of gadgets.

Googmle Gmail suggested 10 gadgets worth trying.

Google Calendar Favicon (before: showing 31st always)
Today, Google Calendar announced that it would not always display 31, but will instead change to reflect the current day of the month.
Today’s date is now always a short glance away.
If you don't see the new up-to-date favicon already, it should be available to all soon within the next couple of days as it slowly get rolled out.

Google Calendar Public Calendars

It has been some time since Google released public calendars for public holidays. On top of that, Google has released calendars for events, entertainment, sports, etc.

I have tried adding Singapore's Calendar for public holiday but many days are incorrect. For example, Vesak Day is shown on 2nd June 2007 but in fact, it should have been 31st May 2007. I have informed Google about this months ago but apparently, this problem is not attended.
