02 July 2009
  • Pick up Ellen at SV City
  • Sight-seeing at Bang Pa-In Summer Palace in Ayutthaya Province, 60 km north of Bangkok, for the morning.
  • Sight-seeing at Ayutthaya, 88 km north of Bangkok, for the rest of the afternoon.
    • Wat Yai Chaimongkhon
    • Chao Sam Phraya Museum
    • Ayutthaya Historical Park for elephant ride
    • Siam restaurant for lunch
    • Wat Mahathat
    • Wat Lokayasutha
    • The Royal Palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet
    • Wat Na Phra Meru
  • Mah Boon Krong (MBK) for a quite high class food court for dinner with colleagues working in Bangkok. Chit chat at Swensens.
  • Bumped onto some Burmese nationals on MBK overhead bridge. They chit-chatted with my friend Moe, a Burmese national too. Obviously their topic was not "decent" and Moe was uneasy after that. We speculated they were illegal immigrants.
  • Back to PST City Home.
03 July 2009
  • Cab to RCL Bangkok office for breakfast. I used to work for RCL Singapore.
  • Cab to Sathon Pier.
  • Take one-way boat ride along Chao Phraya river to Tha Chang.
  • Short distance walk to Grand Palace.
  • Take cab to Vimanmek Mansion for some historical tour.
  • Take cab to Pantip Plaza for a simple local lunch.
  • Shop along Platinum Fashion Mall and Pratunam Center, at the same time waiting for confirmation for night cruise.
  • Attempted to hail cab to a faraway River Side Bangkok Hotel but none knew how to get there.
  • Finally got onto a cab but driver asked for 250THB and needed my help in reading map and giving direction. I even had to use a torchlight for map reading.
  • Caught in a serious traffic jam for 2 hours. Bangkok colleagues in another cab travelling from a different route called to tell us to get to nearest BTS instead since we had missed the cruise timing. We ended at Ratchathewi BTS instead and paid the nice and well-tempered driver 300THB for his 2.5 hours with us.
  • Took BTS to Sala Daeng and met up with Bangkok colleagues.
  • Took cab to a nearby recommended seafood restaurant for a sumptuous late dinner. Their black pepper crabs and chopped chilli crabs were special and nice.
  • Back to PST City Home.
04 July 2009
  • Waited for Ellen to move from SV City to PST City Home.
  • Set off for Chatuchak Market (JJ Market).
  • Met up with a Bangkok colleague (local Thai).
  • Took cab to Central Plaza Lat Phrao, a shopping mall on Phahonyothin Road. This is a popular shopping mall for local Thais.
  • Had lunch at Pizza Company.
  • Shop in Central Plaza.
  • Bought oversized durian.
  • Took cab to River Side Bangkok Hotel for the second time. We just wanted to try the Chao Phraya River Cruise.
  • Chao Phraya River Cruise experience was simply fantastic. Night scenery along the river with Grand Palace and the many Wat lighted up, overhead suspension bridges, tall world class hotels, etc is one to be remembered for life.
  • Back to PST City Home.
05 July 2009
  • Took cab to Pratunam Market for some shopping.
  • Shopping at Platinum Fashion Mall.
  • Lunch at Fuji Japanese Restaurant in Platinum Fashion Mall.
  • Siam Paragon
  • Central, Zen
  • Siam Discovery
  • Mah Boon Krong (MBK) to shop for some local food home.
  • Take BTS to Chong Nongsi.
