If you receive Microsoft Word files (.doc and docx) as attachments in Gmail, you can now view them with a single click. This is possible after Google Docs viewer added support for both .doc and .docx formats, in addition to .pdf, .ppt, and .tiff files. Originally, Word files can only be viewed a HTML.
If you decide you want to edit the file, clicking "Edit online" will open it in Google Docs, or you can download it to your desktop from there.
